Venerable Dr. Huei Kai is a distinguished figure in the fields of Buddhism, academia, and life-and-death studies. He serves as the Deputy Abbot of Fo Guang Shan Monastery in Taiwan and is a Professor at the Graduate Institute of Religious Studies and the Department of Life-and-Death Studies at Nanhua University in Chiayi, Taiwan. He earned his Ph.D. in Religion from Temple University in Philadelphia, USA, in 1997.
Dr. Huei Kai is renowned for his work in life-and-death studies, a field he has significantly contributed to by establishing the Department of Life-and-Death Studies at Nanhua University. He frequently lectures on topics related to life and death, aiming to help individuals come to terms with mortality and lead more fulfilling lives.
In addition to his academic and monastic roles, he has presented at numerous international conferences, exploring Buddhist perspectives on life, death, and suicide prevention. He has also produced educational DVDs on these subjects, making Buddhist teachings accessible to a broader audience.
Dr. Huei Kai’s research interests include religious views, and he has authored multiple peer-reviewed papers and publications. His work often bridges traditional Buddhist teachings with modern societal challenges, emphasizing the importance of Humanistic Buddhism in addressing contemporary issues.
Beyond his academic contributions, he is actively involved in charitable and educational initiatives, including international outreach programs and collaborations with universities to promote Humanistic Buddhism. His personal experiences, including witnessing life-and-death situations during his father’s prolonged hospitalization, have profoundly influenced his dedication to these fields.
